April Dividend Income Report

By | May 1, 2017

There’s one thing I noticed about other bloggers. They report on their dividend income at the end of the month. I’ve decided to do the same. Unfortunately, this site was designed to report on my dividend income in real time with a projected annual dividend income based on my portfolio.  So, I don’t really have a good system to track my dividend income, beyond my dividend portfolio. If you know if any, please let me know. In the mean time, here is my April Dividend Income Report.

As a reminder, April 2017 is the start of me tracking my dividend income on a monthly basis. I’ve revamped my portfolio, and will be making a significant investment to my portfolio within the next couple of weeks. For more on that, see my post on How to Invest $3000.  Finally, because I am still trying to figure out a good way to track my dividends, the format of this monthly report may change.  Alright, enough stalling.  Here we go.

For the month of April, I made a whopping $0.41. Wow! Now, that $0.41 came from Realty Income. At the time of this writing, I owned 1.9706 amount of shares in Realty Income. Based on my calculations, that came out to $0.41 in dividends. I say based on my calculations, because my statement from Capital One Investing is lacking of details mostly because my account is so new. That is why I didn’t report other income even though I have other dividend stocks that paid dividends in April. I don’t think I owned those stocks by the ex-dividend date for it to count. Interestingly enough, I checked my account in preparation for this post and realized that I received a dividend for AT&T effective May 1, 2017. But, because it’s in May, I won’t count it towards April’s dividend report.

The Future Is Bright

Future reports will obviously show more robust income. As I make regular contributions to my portfolio, the amount of dividend income I receive will rise. I  plan on investing for years to come. Although the amount is small right now, like a snow ball, I will soon be receiving dollars not cents. In fact, with enough time, I will be cracking three or even four digits in dividend income.

There you have it. $0.41 in monthly dividend income. I have nowhere to go but up!!!

Thanks BHL. It’s kind of exciting: starting from the ground up.

It seems low now, but look on the bright side. Next year when you post your YoY% growth you will have a huge number to brag about. I mean if you only make $2 in the whole month, it is still like 500% increase haha. And it makes the story more fun when you re-tell it years later down the road when your portfolio is bringing in the big bucks. You’re right, it only goes up from here!

I know right, but I don’t have to wait years from now. I can’t wait until June :).

Realty Income is one of the favorite companies in my portfolio. I’m excited you are receiving a dividend check from them. Each journey begins somewhere and it seems like you are excited and moving your portfolio in the right direction. Now it is time to dig deep and keep on pushing yourself. LETS GO!

Bert, with consistent contribution to my portfolio, and the occasional investment of bonuses from work, or other ‘found’ money, I have no doubt that my portfolio will continue to grow in the right direction. I’m very excited.

You said it, “nowhere but up.” We all have to start somewhere and this update just shows that April can be a slow month for us all. From cents to dollars to double digits, triple and quadruple in a month. Keep it up!

Yea. I like the fact that I’m starting from scratch. One day, I’m going to be like, “wow, remember when the only dividends I received was $0.41”. The idea that all I had to do was make an investment in a strong company that paid me money without me doing anything else for it is still pretty darn powerful. I can’t wait to experience the power of passively compounding growth!!!
