December 2017 Dividend Income Report

By | January 1, 2018

It’s finally here.  The first day of 2018.  Well, it’s time for the final dividend income report for 2017.  For simplicity, I will only focus on the dividend income in this post.  I will discuss the extent to which I’ve achieved my goals in 2017, as well as my goals for 2018, in a different post.  However, the one thing I will say is that I’ve been very proud of the consistency at which I’ve invested. Basically, every month, I have a set amount of money that I invest and it’s been pretty steady throughout the past year.  So, let’s see how the final month shaped up.

Dividend Income

In December, I received a total of $76.51 in dividends broken down as follows:

  • GWW —– $5.97
  • JNJ ——– $10.55
  • KO ——– $10.58
  • MMM —-  $7.20
  • O ——— $6.35
  • PFE ——-  $8.29
  • SBUX —– $5.10
  • XOM —– $22.47

Amazing.  This is the most dividends I’ve gotten in any single month and from the most number of companies.  This is also the first time that GWW has paid me dividends.  I am very excited and encouraged by these numbers.  And, I expect them to get bigger in 2018.  In fact, I hope to hit the triple digit mark in the New Year.

Forward Annual Dividends

As of right now, the meter shows that my forward annual dividends is $658.30.  It’s still a long way to go but I am aiming straight for the $1000 mark.  As you will see in my next post, I will be working on increasing my monthly contributions to my dividend portfolio so that I can get to my goals faster. But, I love updating my portfolio and seeing this number rise.

Finally, no new stocks were added to my dividend portfolio in December.

Conclusion

How was December for you?  Let me know by commenting below.

Good job. Keep buying and reinvesting the dividend and you will hit 1000.00 sooner rather than later. Mine was good should be out Tuesday with my report. Keep it up.

Thanks Doug. My mantra is to never sell (if I can avoid it). So, the plan is definitely to keep buying and reinvesting those dividends.

HECK YEAH dividend portfolio. A new record from a record setting amount of companies paying. Great stuff. I cannot wait to read your next post and see what strategy you have developing for increasing your contributions.

Thanks. I probably could do the math to see if I would hit it, but I’m too lazy. Plus, I’d rather be surprised!

I don’t do dividend investing. But I transferred a portion of my long term portfolio into a day trading model, and it’s been working pretty well so far. I’ll increase the size of that portfolio if it continues to show success over the next few months.

    Happy New Year!

I’ve also tried sticking to a regular monthly contribution. It makes me think of my portfolio as a living and breathing savings account instead of a stock pick gamble like I used to think of it as. You’re on a great track. Nice list of companies – we have a lot of them in common.

Thanks Dozer. The beautiful thing is that the regular contributions are automatic, so I don’t really have to think about it. It forces me to live on the remaining balance which I’ve gotten use to. I’m actually going to increase the contributions for 2018, but that’s a good thing. It’s nice we have a lot of things in common. Here’s to a successful year for us both.

Way to close out the year DP!

You have a list of absolute studs closing out your year! I’m hoping to pick up a few of those names sometime this year if the opportunity every presents itself.

    Looking forward to 2018!

Terrific list of dividend payers this month, DP. I got a laugh from your comment about you being too lazy to calculate your projected dividend income for next year. I think you’ve got $1K in the bag thanks to your investing persistence. Congrats on the record-setting December.

    Hi Keven,

I wanted to write you an e-mail, but did not find it. Now a comment instead.

Like you I am very interested in growth dividend stocks. Last year I quit my job to create a start-up helping people find solid dividend growth stocks. I am living in Germany and my web page was German only. That changed a few days ago. Now I also have an English site online. For sure, no one cares, because nobody knows. I try to change this by writing mails to people doing the same in the hope that someone likes and maybe kicks of the first domino 😉

So, maybe you want to look briefly at my site (all coding done by me-self):

    https://dividendstocks.cash

All of the stocks in your portfolio are analyzed there. If you like the site, just register and tell me afterwards. I will promote you to full member then (free of charge, for sure). It’s commercial – but anybody can gain insight to 80 dividend aristocrats worldwide for free.

I guess, I still need to change some things for us-focused investors, like adding a symbol to the Isin. I will see.

It would be a great pleasure for me to find an answer in my mailbox from you. You surely get tons of advertising spam – hope you don’t consider this one to be one more!

    Thanks for reading that far!

Congrats on your strong finish to 2017. It’s always nice getting a record sum of cash your way. Nice to see that we share quite a few names paying us for the month as well. Invest and stay invested in 2018 no matter what the market is doing and you’ll have a good chance of hitting your $1k goal. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Div Hut. I rarely pay attention to the market. Sometimes I can’t help it because of all the headlines (good or bad). But, I don’t nervously go on my computer and see if the stock market went up or down today, for the week, or month or year. Every now and again, I’ll look to see if there are good news or bad news about the companies I invest in. And, of course, I am especially interested in whether or not any of the companies I invest in cut their dividends. But, beyond that, I stay invested, no matter what the market is doing. Although I wasn’t as dedicated to investing during the 2008 recession, and so don’t have the experience of seeing the value of my portfolio drastically decline, I still think I would stay invested even if that’s the case. I believe the companies I’m invested in are strong companies that can weather difficult times, and as long as their ability to pay dividends remain strong, and it makes financial sense to continue to invest in the companies, I plan to do just that.

Thanks as always for commenting DH. Let’s hope 2018 is a record year for both of us.
