Dividend Income Report – August 2019

By | September 3, 2019

I haven’t posted in a while. I’ve been on vacation. I’m writing this post while on a train from New York to DC. New York was fun! I met some good people there and hope to remain friends. Lot’s to report but I will leave that for another post. Now it’s time for me to report the dividends I earned in August in this dividend income report. Let’s dive in.

Dividend Income

In August, I received a total of $147.73 in dividend income broken down as follows:

NO.STOCKNAMEDIVIDENDS
1AAPLApple $8.88
2ABBVAbbvie $34.35
3GISGeneral Mills $21.94
4HRLHormel Foods $11.43
5ORealty Income $8.39
6PGProctor & Gamble $15.63
7SBUXStarbucks $11.92
8TAT&T $35.19
 $147.73

Not bad. AT&T was the highest dividend payer in August. It’s still not the $150 I was hoping for but it’s close. The growth of the dividends has slowed down a lot given the fact that I had significantly reduced my contributions to my portfolio. The reason for that, of course, is that I am looking at buying a condo. More on that in a future post.

Annual Income

I normally show a graphical representation of the annual income but for some reason, I had trouble doing so this time around. I hope to get the problem fixed soon.

Here is the raw data:

MONTH201720182019Rate
January$0.00 $14.93 $37.54 151.44%
February$0.00 $77.66 $141.16 81.77%
March$0.00 $72.93 $136.45 87.10%
April$0.41 $31.47 $55.39 76.01%
May$2.85 $79.33 $142.69 79.87%
June$16.89 $98.51 $160.47 62.90%
July$5.99 $42.32 $59.68 41.02%
August$21.95 $108.44 $147.73 36.23%
September$28.72 $111.15
October$23.21 $48.09
November$62.11 $124.92
December$76.51 $140.24

As you can see, I earned a 36.23% increase in dividend income compared to last year. The rise in dividends is a combination of my contributions as well as the organic growth in dividends in the portfolio. As expected, the larger my portfolio gets, there is a downward trend in the percentage increase of YoY annual dividend income.

Finally, the Dividend Tracker has been updated.

Forward Annual Dividends

At the time of this writing, my forward annual dividends is $469.19. You read that right! A month ago, my forward annual dividends was $1512.96. This represents a 69% DECREASE from the previous month. This is the first such significant decrease of the forward annual dividends since the inception of this blog. The reason for the decline is because I sold a majority of my portfolio to fund the downpayment on a condo. Again, I’ll be writing about this later.

Conclusion

I earned a respectable amount of dividends in August but as you can see in the forward annual dividend number, the money I earned went to fund the down payment on a condo.

I’m still not out of the woods yet. There is a significant chance that I will withdraw even more from my portfolio for one reason or another. But again, I’ll update you all in another post.

Another month gone in 2019. Let’s all finish the year strong.

What did you think of this post? Did you reach any milestones in August? Let me know by commenting below.

Yea I love T. I hated the fact that I sold most of my stocks. I haven’t finalized the decision yet to buy the condo but deep down I think I’ve already decided. So to that extent … thanks :). Hahahaha

We’ve got several companies in common so I’m board with you. I was surprised to see the big drop in your forward dividends, but then I remembered about the condo. Saving and investing is all about giving yourself choices. Don’t worry one bit about purchasing a condo if that’s what you want to do.

Thanks JC. I did stop worrying a while ago, but I hate the idea of selling my stocks cause I thought I was going to hold them into retirement. But like they say, life is what happens when you make plans.

That’s the hope MDD. It may take a while but I’ll be working on that goal once the dust settles.

While no one likes to see a decrease in forward dividend income, this represents a different kind of investment purchase. The income was strong for this month and I love some of the names you received dividends from. Hopefully some of those are still in your portfolio!

Thanks Bert. My portfolio remains largely unchanged based on how M1 Finance chooses which stocks to sell, so all stocks right now remain in my portfolio. There just isn’t any money in them.

Glad you didn’t wipe the portfolio out completely and I hope you realized some capital gains on the shares you sold. Hope you get a good deal on the condo and we can start reading about rental cash flow in the future.

Thanks PC. I do plan on updating the community on how the condo is doing. I still want to keep the blog focused primarily on dividends, but I will be changing my tag line very soon! Hahaha. Stay tuned for that. Thanks again for the well wishes.

It is BHL. I’m also sad to see them go, but I hope to rebuild after the dust has settled.

    Nice Port!

Nice income but man oh man, congrats on the condo property! I look forward to following your journey on it. Real estate may be my next source of passive income and id sell some stocks to purchase. Toronto area seems to high atm so I’ll wait to jump that way.

    keep it up man!
    cheers.

Appreciate it PCI. I’m a huge fan of real estate, and hoping this purchase was a wise decision.

Great month DP! It seems that we will see smaller numbers from you for some time now but I guess they will be more than offset by income from the condo 🙂
Looking forward to see how it plays out for you!

Looking forward to the same BI. Yes, you will definitely see smaller numbers, but at least it was for a good reason.

Thanks ED and I hope so as well. The portfolio will take another big hit but I’m not wiping it out completely.

I know right. Those are some impressive companies. I went to Starbucks today. It’s generally recommended to invest in what you know. That’s what I love about the stocks in my portfolio. Thanks for the comment!
