Dividend Income Report – February 2018

By | March 2, 2018

Another month is gone.  February was such a short month, but I’m glad it’s over.  Currently, I’m super busy at work and will be for the foreseeable future.  I guess the equivalent might be an accountant who gets busy because it’s tax season.  In any case, it is what it is.  Even working long hours, sometimes twelve hours per day, sometimes more, I hope I find time to blog.  Blogging is a nice reprieve and I love doing it.  And, one of my favorite posts to write is at the beginning of the month where I get to report on my dividend income for the previous month.  January was an off month, but let’s see how my dividend portfolio did in February.

Dividend Income

In February, I received a total of $77.66 in dividends broken down as follows:

  • AAPL — $5.97
  • ABBV — $13.26
  • GIS —- $8.97
  • HRL — $7.17
  • O —– $7.09
  • PG — $10.17
  • SBUX – $6.06
  • T —–  $18.97

Now, that’s more like it.  That’s the most I’ve ever received in a single month and it came from a respectable 8 number of companies.  Honestly, it’s been very difficult maintaining the increased level of contributions to my dividend portfolio.  It’s tough but certainly achievable and seeing numbers like this gives me motivation to keep going.  AT&T gave me enough dividends to purchase 0.5 shares of the same company.  I can’t wait until that reaches 1 share.  I love the power of compounding growth over time.

Unfortunately, I didn’t start tracking my dividends until April of last year.  So, I have to wait until April of this year before I can begin a year on year comparison. It’s going to be exciting!

The dividend tracker has been updated accordingly.

Forward Annual Dividends

At the time of this writing, my forward annual dividends is $732.93.  I’ll be updating my portfolio next week to reflect the $600 per month that I invest with Capital One Investing.  By the way, because Capital One Investing will be moving to E*trade later this year, it’s unclear if E*trade will be keeping the same advantage program as Capital One Investing.  If they don’t, there might be a brief pause on my monthly trades as I work to find a solution.  But, until that time, I’ll maintain my current level of contributions and cross that bridge when I get there.

No additional stocks were purchased in February.

Conclusion

February was a much better month for my dividend income than January.  Truthfully, I’m thankful for every dividend amount no matter how small.  But, it’s nice to see big numbers every now and again.  This year, I’m really hoping to cross the 3 digit mark in a single month and I feel like it’s going to happen. But until then, I’ll be moving forward at the speed of exponential growth.

Wow man you rocked it 🙂 my feb income is a minor 12$ from T. Thats it. Rest u.s stocks will pay me at March and european once a year durring Q2 and Q3. HRL and GIS are on my target and they pay in feb. But next purchase is far for now.

700$ div income and 600$/mo investing is huge 🙂 keep it up.

And dont get overworked. We all know what they do with overworked hourses back in the days 😉 Health is very important.

Appreciate it p2035. HRL and GIS are great companies so they will make a good addition to your portfolio. And you have no where to go but up as you continue to contribute to your portfolio and experience exponential growth.

Job is good, but stressful. I’ll try to keep a watchful eye on my health.

    Hi DP,
Congrats on a great month and a new record! I am sure that you will reach the 3 digit mark for a single month in the nearest future. I received dividends from 3 companies and you share all 3 of them (PG, O & T). I will be reporting my results this weekend 🙂

Geek, I’m not sure and it’s possible you might. The problem with E*trade right now is that if it costs me $4.95 per trade and I have 12 companies, I would be paying $59.40 every month just to maintain my current level of contributions, whereas, with Capital One Investing, I pay only $12 a month. So, I hope they keep the same deal when the account gets transferred to E*trade, otherwise, I will have to try and find a solution.

Well, things will came down for me after about two weeks, but then it’s going to pick back up a couple of months from now in all likelihood. Just rolling with the punches. Thanks for the encouragement.

Hi DP. Congrats on your increasing dividends! It is only going to keep going up. My wife had the same issue with E*TRADE and she decided to make one trade a month with her entire investment. This way she avoided the trading fee being a big percentage of her investment every month (gotta watch those investing expenses!).

There are a couple of platforms with lower trade expenses – here is an article that summarizes them: https://www.thesimpledollar.com/best-free-stock-trading/

I own AAPL, PG, and T. You should do very well with those stocks long term!

    Hey DP,

77$ is pretty solid and the names that paid you are top quality companies. Keep it up like this and your dividend income will be three figures each month!
I’m very busy at work and with project at home right now too. Would be cool if the day had a few more hours;-). But i know what i work for and it will pay off.
My dividend income for February 2018 was a new all time record which motivates me a lot and the amount that hit my investment account was quite substantial.

That’s a nice group of companies paying you this month, DP. I share 5 of the 8 with you. I don’t have any AAPL, but could see myself owning it. Congrats on record income. 3-digit months will be a foregone conclusion if you continue to plow $600/mo into new investments. Stay with it!

Thanks ED. I actually contribute $1010 to my portfolio every month. The $600 only goes to companies I own in Capital One Investing which will be transferred to etrade later this year. AAPL has a low dividend yield, but I think it’s a good stock to own. I wish I owned them back when they did their stock split, but I don’t think they paid dividends at that time. In any case, I own an iphone and I like the idea that I invest in companies I understand or in whose products I routinely use. Thanks for the encouragement.

Thanks MP. Despite the volatility in the market, the dividends payout schedule remained unchanged. What’s more, the companies I invest in are stable companies and so I’m not worried about them going out of business tomorrow, even in a more volatile stock market. AAPL, for example, is still a strong company even though the price of the stock might have declined a little. I do pay attention to the markets, but I’m really not phased by what’s going on. It also helps that I have a long term horizon, as I plan to stay invested for at least the next 15 years and, more likely, the next 30 years (or longer).

Nice month. Solid payers giving you a good dividend. I have Capital one also but since I have a larger portfolio I’m gonna switch to Merrill edge and get their free trades which will probably help. Keep it up.

I don’t think my portfolio is large enough to qualify, but it might get there in about 1-2 years. Also, I don’t believe you can purchase fractional shares of the stock even though you may have fractional shares with dividend reinvesting. Still, Merrill Lynch is not a bad alternative, especially if I’m looking for automatic dividend reinvesting (that Robinhood doesn’t do) and free trades of stocks (as opposed to index funds or ETFs).

For Merrill edge free trades you need a qualified checking account and a combined balance of 50,000 for 3 months for platinum and that gets you 30 free trades a month

Looks like a solid return for the month of Feb. with a handful of common stocks paying us both. Keep up the good work. Like you I’m also waiting to see how Etrade will honor or not the classic Sharebuilder commish and investing plans. If they don’t I will consider moving my account elsewhere. These days there are several free and low commish choices that one doesn’t need to stick with a broker if they aren’t happy. Thanks for sharing.
