Introducing New Blog Features

By | July 30, 2017

It’s been a little over a year since I started this blog. Blogging has been a tremendous source of enjoyment for me and the dividend growth investing blogging community is just great. I enjoy writing about the financial aspects of my life and occasionally about other areas of my personal life as well. Most recently, I’ve also decided to write about my fitness goals. But, although I love blogging, I’m no expert at computers, SEO, or anything of the sort. However, like most people, I endeavor to learn and grow. Well, I think it’s time for this blog to also grow. The following are new blog related features.

Introducing Dividend Portfolio on Facebook

Facebook has won. Virtually everyone I know is on Facebook. As you know, I’m a private person and did not have Facebook for a myriad of reasons, including the fact that I like my privacy. Well, out of necessity (work related), and despite years of resistance, I recently created my very first Facebook page. Now, to maintain my privacy, I also created a fan page devoted to this blog. So, please visit my Dividend Portfolio Fan Page and tell me what you think. It’s very new.

I just figured out how to have these posts automatically get posted on Facebook. That will help keep the contact fresh. But, I may also toy with adding fresh new content on Facebook that may not necessarily be on this blog. Also, I will eventually change the cover page once I can find an image that’s the right size and looks good. I’m really still learning. I don’t know all the ins and outs of Facebook and I don’t want to accidentally do something that’s going to violate my sense of privacy. Moreover, in addition to knowing a lot of people who have Facebook, I also know a lot of people who seem addicted to it. I really don’t want to be any of those who gets addicted. So, I’m going to take my time with this technology.

I know there are lots more to social media than Facebook. But, I doubt I’ll have time for Twitter, Instagram, or any others right now. But we will see.

So, as I learn about tagging, sharing, likes, and other things of the sort, I hope that the Fan Page will be value added to the blog. If nothing else, it might get more traffic to this site.

Modest Money – Top Finance Blogs

You may have noticed, but there’s a new badge on the website. That’s the Modest Money badge. As of today’s writing, Dividend Portfolio is ranked #584 of the top finance blogs. We have no where to go but up. Social media is included in that score, and right now, the score for this site is zero. That’s accurate because currently, there’s no promotion via social media. So, hopefully, after today, that number will rise.

I have to give a special thank you to Dividend Daze. Although I’ve seen this badge on other sites before, I never really took notice. It wasn’t until it was referenced by Dividend Daze that I took notice. I then decided to pursue its inclusion on this site. Please let me know if you like the positioning of the badge. Do you think it should be moved down a bit?

Conclusion

There you have it. Those are the new features of the blog. If you have any suggestions whatsoever about site improvement, do let me know. Please let me know what you think by commenting below.

Thanks for the mention! I appreciate it. The new features are looking good. I’m the same way as you, I really don’t care for social media at all. But it is kind of a necessity for blogging as far as getting more traffic and your site out there. Especially if you ever want to monetize it later on. That isn’t the goal for me right now so I’m just enjoying the interactions and learning process right now. More of a hobby for now I guess. Social media takes a lot of time to maintain. Trying to find more ways to automate that portion but I know some of those things cost money so will have to do a cost vs benefit analysis to see if it is worth it. And at least as far as your privacy goes, we can keep it the same as the site. We are pretty transparent but not overwhelming. So any social media accounts have the same level. The thought process is more of a business mindset instead of personal. Example, I wouldn’t really share funny memes I find on the Daze FB or Twitter because they are not relevant. Save those for personal accounts if they are around. But that is just me. Will be fun seeing our blogs grow together. Also, congrats on the year mark, didn’t know you hit that already.

You’re welcome. I definitely appreciate your comment and am totally looking forward to our blogs grow as well. I do look at the FB page for the blog as separate from my personal FB account (which still only has one friend). So, I look at it as more of an extension of the blog.

Blogging for more than a year is great. I was a bit inactive for a few months last year, but I’ve found incredible work/life balance which allows me to write more often. So now, the main issue will be what to write about, not whether I can find the time to write. Always appreciate your comments Div Daze.

    #585, that’s pretty cool. I’m probably ranked at 1000+ 🙂

Blogging is probably all I’m going to do for now as facebook and other social media stuff is just too annoying and on your face type of stuff that I just don’t have the desire to be involved in. If I can keep my blog going for another year, I would be pretty happy with that.

Fair enough Mr. ATM. It’s definitely going to be a little bit more time consuming initially, but I’m hoping it will be a smooth transition in my blogging life.

Very nice DP. I’m new to the blogging world and will probably stick with just blogging for the foreseeable future. But I really like what you are doing and look forward to seeing your progress. From what I’ve heard, patience is a virtue when it comes to growing a blog. Hard work is another virtue. Keep up the awesome work!

Thanks PCI. Yea, you visit the page, and all you do is submit your blog information to them. It takes a few days, but you should be good to go. It’s super easy.
