New Fitness Goal

By | July 29, 2017

I hate going to the gym. I’ve tried for years and it looks like every year is the same. I get motivated for a few weeks and then quit. Sometimes I hire personal trainers, but my progress has been very minimal. So, once again, I’ve decided to focus on my fitness. The difference is, I’m contemplating tracking my progress on this blog.

I don’t expect that it’s going to be easy. In fact, if there’s anything I’m good at when it comes to fitness, is quitting. So, I want to give this a good faith effort and give myself the gift of a body transformation.

Why Blog About Fitness?

I’ve found that blogging helps me keep on track with my goals. Blogging has helped tremendously with regards to staying focused on improving my financial health. I am hoping it works the same for my physical health as well. I am hoping that staying on track with my fitness goals will help me get the body I’ve always wanted. You know the one: muscles that go along with a 6-pack or an 8-pack abs.

So, I may be working out for all the wrong reasons. Yea, I know there are health benefits to working out. But, all I want to do is go to the beach, take my shirt off, and not feel selfconscious about how I look. Plus, I want to be one of those guys who wear the muscle shirts to clearly show they work out in case you missed the huge size of their biceps.

So, I’m really hoping that blogging about fitness will help keep me motivated all the way through.

But Isn’t This A Blog About Dividends?

Absolutely! And that’s not going to change. But, much like my debt tracker, I may create a page dedicated to tracking my fitness goals. That page will be updated regularly, probably after each time I go to the gym. I’m not sure as of yet.  In addition, I might do a weekly post that talks about how I did for the week.

I haven’t worked out all the kinks yet, but that is something I am seriously considering adding to this blog. My dividend growth strategy will continue to be the primary focus of the blog. But, having own this blog now for a little bit more than a year, I can see that there are other things about my life that I would like to write about. I tried creating a separate blog some time ago, but trying to keep up with two blogs proved overwhelming.

So, the focus of this blog won’t change, but there might occasionally be posts related to my fitness goals. Besides, the more healthy I am, the more I am able to work to bring in income so I can invest in dividend stocks. Also, the healthier I am, the longer life I will live (relatively speaking) and the longer I can enjoy the benefits of the income I derive from my dividend portfolio.

How Am I Going To Achieve My Fitness Goals?

Well, I am working with a personal trainer, who is FREE!!! We will be meeting twice next week. I’m going to be on a plan. My biggest problem is going to be dieting. As I’ve stated numerous times, my food budget is out of control. The main reason for that is because I don’t cook, but eat out every day. Well, it seems like cooking is the direction my personal trainer wants me to go. So, whatever the plan is, I’m going to try to follow it.

I will be posting the plan here, and updating my progress on the plan. The personal training is free because my personal trainer is going for his certification. So, he has a bunch of clients, all through work, and we are all free. So, we just met up today as a group, to discuss the program, etc. I’m super excited. It’s going to be hard, but at least I have a motivator and trainer who can help me. And, I don’t have to pay him one penny.

This is good, because despite going to the gym on and off for years, I still don’t know what to do when I go. That’s part of the reason why I don’t go to the gym. I feel like I’m wasting my time because I just do whatever I feel like. I don’t follow any plan. Even if I have a plan, it’s going to be hard to follow it, if I’m just doing it on my own. I know myself. So, having someone with me is super helpful. Even if my plan is to work out 3 times a week, but he’s only able to work out with me twice a week, that’s still great. I can definitely do that.

So, What Now?

Well, I get my plan tomorrow. And, I don’t start until Monday. So, time to indulge in consuming all the unhealthy food and drinks over the next two days while I still can. Then, it’s off to hard work next week.

Actually, starting tomorrow, I’m supposed to take a picture of myself. Then I’ll take a picture every week while in the program to document my progress.

What’s In It For You?

I’m a very private individual, which is why my photo isn’t on this site. But, if I am able to have the muscles I want, I might just put a real photo of me on this blog. I might even do a before and after photo. We will see. Time will tell.

Conclusion

Hopefully, with this blog and with my workout plan, I can one day say, I love going to the gym. Thank you for reading. What are your fitness goals? What do you think about me blogging about fitness on this blog. Let me know in the comment section below.

Congrats. I have few goals myself. I prefer self exercize at home and running. Just completed 15km today. Diet is a good idea. I think I need it to. My wife say that all I need to do is eat less and dont eat at evenings 😀

Probably good advice from your wife. I just know it’s going to be tough to follow the diet guidance from my trainer. I’m so very weak in that department.

Great! If you want some serious training tips or something, feel free to ask. Been working out every day for more than 10 years. I need to go to the gym each day to find balance in life. Might right a post about it.
My best tip is to focus on creating good habits more than goals. The best way (for me) to get a low fat % is to bicycle for 1 hour each day, burning 500 calories. I listen to investing podcasts while doing this.

That’s cool Stockles. I just want to get the point where I want to go to gym. Right now it’s a struggle but I just have to keep at it. I can’t imagine right now working out for 10 years. 🙂

WITH SO MUCH hyper-specific advice out there on different styles of training and areas of fitness, it’s easy to lose sight of the big picture. Everyone has different fitness goals, ranging from generally trying to stay active to viewing fitness as a lifestyle. We talked to three experienced trainers on what some of the most important fitness goals should be for just about anybody. These goals will keep you grounded and force you to look at the big picture in your approach to incorporating physical activity within your life.

Thanks Lisa for commenting and stopping by. I do agree that having fitness goals and not losing site of the big picture definitely helps in one’s reaching their goal. The other thing is that different trainers have different ways of training. Sometimes, it might even be a matter of whether their training style meshes with your learning style. But yea, remembering the why and keeping an eye on the bigger picture definitely helps.

Once I stopped eating out and started eating home cooked healthy meals, I lost like 25 lbs over a 6mo period. Sure, I also did exercise daily like walking few miles a day and get on an elliptical for 45min, but no gym or personal trainer.

Also, I didn’t have to go on any extreme diet to lose all this weight. Just try to eat healthy food and also cut down on sugar and carbs in general.

Good luck, you can do it!

Appreciate it Mr. ATM. Congrats on losing 25 lbs. That reminds me, I need to get on the scales to weigh myself, which of course requires me to have scales. So, I’m going to go to the store now to see if I can purchase one. I might follow in your footsteps to start eating home cooked healthy meals. I also have to cut back on the drinking. I’m trying to transform my small fat into large muscle. Can’t wait.

Yea, lots of benefits to improving fitness. But, day 1 was so hard. I can see why it’s hard for folks to stick with it. The good news is that I may have a workout partner. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Thanks Brian. It’s only the first week and already it’s a struggle adjusting to the new lifestyle. But, I’m already eating and drinking more healthy now than before. Good luck with your goals too.

By all means add it to this blog, I would be very interested in following your progress. Myself I work out three times a week and have a small space in the attic where I have various weights and a pull up bar. What also helped me mentally was that I registered for a 5 KM obstacle run so that I would have a goal in mind within 6 months. With obstacle runs you have to train you entire body as well as endurance. Besides that it is al (in my opinion) a lot of fun!

But it all starts with your diet, which means you will have to start cooking 🙂 Don’t worry when you see what wonders it will do for your health AND you budget! 😀

Well after a good first week I haven’t been back to the gym. I had an accident while running and so I’ve been recovering. Good luck on your gym goals. I haven’t quit yet though. So still in the fight.
