October 2017 Dividend Income Report

By | November 1, 2017

October has come and gone. I know it’s only 31 days, but it just felt like a long time waiting for the month to be over. However, the past month was an interesting one. I had a moment to reflect. I took a look at where I was in life and where I was headed. After much consideration, I introduced the inspirational quotes of the month. That’s where every month, around the 15th, I will post an inspirational quote to help motivate my readers. But, it’s a community affair. So, I will also re-post quotes that were posted in the comments section on that page. That way, the community helps motivate each other. There’s still time to get your quotes in by the way. Just head on over and leave a quote in the comments section of the inspirational quotes of the month post. Finally, Halloween was yesterday, and for me, it was quiet. I thought about dressing up, but got lazy. There’s always next year, I guess. Alright, enough stalling. Let’s see how much dividends I earned in October.

Dividend Income

In October, I received a total of $23.21 in dividends broken down as follows:

  • CSCO – $7.68
  • KO —- $9.68
  • O —– $5.85

Notably, in July, only KO and O paid me dividends and the total at that time was $5.99. So now, I added CSCO and this is the first time I’m being paid by CSCO. As a reminder, I won’t be able to start making yearly comparisons until March of next year because I only started tracking my dividends March of this year.

Finally, the dividend tracker has been updated accordingly. And, you may notice that I crossed the $100 mark in actual dividends received this year from the date I started tracking dividends.

Forward Annual Dividends

As of today’s writing, my forward annual dividends is $599.83. Are you kidding me? I am $0.17 away from breaking the $600 mark!!! That is going to happen with my next investment in a day or so. I’ve stated this several times but the way I choose to invest is through dollar cost averaging (DCA). So, I contribute the same amount every month to my portfolio. My DCA amount right now is about $800. Unfortunately, I don’t have the means to raise that because I’m also trying to pay off my 20k in student loans. And, I’ve remarkably failed at that goal due to life’s circumstances, which I’ll talk about in a later post. But, you can expect my next post to be the fact that I broke the $600 mark.  So, exciting.

Finally, no new stocks were added to my dividend portfolio in October.

Conclusion

Although October felt like a long month, it was relatively quiet. That included Halloween. I didn’t dress up or anything. Hopefully, your October was more exciting than mine was. So, how did you do in October? Was it a scary month? If you did dress up for Halloween, what costume did you wear?

    Hi DP,
Congrats on a great month! Just think about the progress you made when compared to July (first month of the quarter))!
I also received dividends from CSCO and O, just in slightly smaller amounts. I will be reporting my income shortly as well 😉

Thanks Brian. DCA is a great strategy for beginners to look into to see if that’s an approach they want to take.

Three well known solid dividend payers contributing to your October total. What’s not to like. All the little buys, passive income have contributed nicely to your annual total. $600+ here we come. Excited for you to reach that milestone. Stay motivated!

Man, that’s pretty awesome achievement. You may be getting a div raise that would put you over $600. I’m expecting four raises (announcements) in December from VTR, PFE, BA, and O. I know you own O and PFE, so you should be getting those two raises before the year end.

Mr. ATM, I won’t be over the $600 mark until Nov 7 or Nov 8. Then, I’ll update my portfolio with the latest number of shares. But it’s good to know I might be getting two more increases in December.
