Dividend Income Report – May 2019

By | June 1, 2019

Another month has come and gone. The second month of the quarter is usually a good month for me and so I’m super excited to see how much dividends I received for the month of May. Spring is in full force, but I’m not going to let the warm weather slow me down. I have ambitious plans for the future, which should be evident from my recent posts. There’s also one scary prospect that I’m considering which will be the focus of my next post. But, until then, let’s see the dividend income report for May 2019.

Dividend Income

In May, I received a total of $142.69 dividends broken down as follows:

NO.STOCKNAMEDIVIDENDS
1AAPLApple $8.47
2ABBVAbbvie $31.94
3GISGeneral Mills $21.94
4HRLHormel Foods $10.06
5ORealty Income $8.37
6PGProtector & Gamble $15.63
7SBUXStarbucks $12.43
8TAT&T $33.85
 $142.69

While the number is good, I’m not sure what happened as compared to last quarter. That’s because, in February, I received a total of $141.16. The only thing I can think of is that there was a sell of about 1.5 shares in SBUX in May (long story) but I don’t think that accounted for the nearly similar amount in dividends I received in the quarter. $142.69 is still a good number and the portfolio is moving in the right direction. I just thought it would be higher this month.

What is more likely is that based on the way M1 Finance invests money, those funds that I used in the previous quarter went more to other shares than those reflected here. So, hopefully, next month’s report will make up the difference.

Finally, maybe some of those purchases occurred after the ex-dividend date so I’m sure I’ll see those amount reflected in future income report updates.

Annual Comparison

Below is a graphical representation of my dividends so far:

Here is the raw data:

MONTH201720182019Rate
January$0.00 $14.93 $37.54 151.44%
February$0.00 $77.66 $141.16 81.77%
March$0.00 $72.93 $136.45 87.10%
April$0.41 $31.47 $63.76 102.61%
May$2.85 $79.33 $142.69 79.87%
June$16.89 $98.51
July$5.99 $42.32
August$21.95 $108.44
September$28.72 $111.15
October$23.21 $48.09
November$62.11 $124.92
December$76.51 $140.24

As you can see, a 79.87% increase from last year’s amount is very healthy. Hopefully, I can keep this growth going, but that all depends on what I decide to do with my next house purchase.

The Dividend Tracker has been updated accordingly.

Adopt-A-Stock Project

In May, I adopted Abbvie. I bought 1.10222 shares at $78.94 per share. I would not otherwise have bought this additional share of Abbvie. Rather than spending money eating out or going to see a movie, I chose to add additional funds in my dividend portfolio with the adopt-a-stock project.

Forward Annual Dividends

At the time of this writing, my forward annual dividend is $1478.83. A month ago, my forward annual dividend was $1415.42. This represents an increase of $63.41 or 4.00% in my forward annual dividend income. Iā€™m getting closer to that $1500 mark. I expect to be there within the next three months.

Conclusion

While the dividend income report for May was solid, I was still slightly disappointed in the number of dividends received for the month. However, the forward annual dividends boasted a healthy 4% increase from last month’s number. So, I’ll take it.

How was May for you? Did you break any records or achieved a milestone? Let me know your thoughts by commenting below.

Great progress. I like your positions in HRL and PG. I missed those opportunities last year. Around that time I initiated a relatively small position in PEP. We share positions in AAPL, ABBV, O, SBUX and T. Very cool!

My May article will be up this week.

What a great month you had, I love looking at that chart and seeing the candle sticks getting longer and longer. We haven’t tallied our May dividend income yet, should be around $1,700 I think.

I hope to get it in June ED, but I’ve since slow down my contributions (again) to my dividend portfolio. I’ll write about that soon. Thanks for the encouragement and I can’t wait to post June’s results. It should be a good month.

Nice month DP! Even though the difference is not big compared to February, you managed to reach a new record, as I can see from the graph šŸ™‚
    Keep up the good work!

Thanks BI. I always love reaching a new record and the YoY growth was pretty good so no complaints.
