Inspirational Quote of the Month – May 2018

By | May 17, 2018

Life is strange.  Sometimes you’re up, and sometimes you’re down,  It’s virtually impossible to go through life without pain or difficulty.  We are in the 5th month of the year. Cinco de Mayo has come on and gone.  We’ve posted our dividend income reports for April and I’m sure we’re all looking forward to seeing how May treats us.  One of the great things about the dividend growth strategy is that there’s usually good news to report every month.  Since the focus is on dividends, the everyday volatility of the market is not the most paramount.  And because dividends tend to rise every year, we usually have good news to report.  If nothing else, we can celebrate the fact that we have a greater number of shares than the previous month.  But sometimes, all is not rosy.  Life is hard and can sometimes lead to stress.  Sometimes we have bad days that we have to find a way to deal with it.  It’s days like that, that has inspired this month’s quote.

Inspirational Quotes for May

Before I share with you the inspirational quote of the month, let’s review last month’s quote.

My inspirational quote for April was, “A bend in the road is not the end of the road – unless you fail to make the turn.” – Unknown.

My inspirational quote for May is, “The greatest weapon against stress is our ability to choose one thought over another.” – William James.

On the one hand, I think this is so true.  There is a mental component to stress that is very related.  Mastering one’s thoughts will go a great way to relieving stress. On the other hand, it’s easier said than done.  When something is really bothering you, it’s constantly on your mind. It’s very hard to put that thought out of your head.  You might try not thinking about it, but your subconscious does not always cooperate.  Those are the times that you just have to remember that your greatest weapon against stress is the ability to choose one thought over another.  If you can do that, you will be well on your way to reducing stress in your life.

This is some good advice that I think I could use to get me through this month.  Life has been incredibly stressful all of a sudden.  Wish me luck.

Inspirational Quotes from the DGI Community

These are the inspirational quotes from the DGI community last month.  As always, if you want your quote to appear in the section below, just leave me your quotes in the comments section before publication of the next edition of the inspirational quotes of the month.

Wallet Hacks“It is not necessary to do extraordinary things to get extraordinary results.” – Warren Buffett.  Jim Wang reminds us of this famous quote by Warren Buffett that is so applicable to dividend growth investing.  It’s such a simple thing to continually invest in solid companies that have a history of rising dividends and wait for the power of compounding to do its work.

Mr. Income Master – “The path to success is to take massive, determined action.” – Tony Robbins.  As I replied to Mr. Income Master’s quote, this reminds me of another quote that says, “You don’t have to be great to start, but you do have to start to be great” – Joe Sabah, or even the simple, “Nothing happens until something moves” – Albert Einstein.

Conclusion

I hope May is treating you well.  Afterall, we have much to be thankful for.  But, just in case you are having a stressful month as I, I hope you will remember the inspirational quote of the month.  If you need a little extra motivation, consider the inspirational quotes from the DGI Community.  It’s a long journey towards financial freedom.  We all need a little motivation and inspiration along the way.

I hope you enjoyed this month’s edition of the inspirational quotes of the month.  Let me know your thoughts, and as always, leave a quote that inspires you in the comment section below.

    Thanks for including me! 🙂

Another idea I’ve always loved is the whole “improve yourself 1%” and you’ll get huge results over time. Part of me wondered if was a semi-cop out (it’s easy to get 1% gains, why not push yourself for more?!?!) but then I realize you don’t have to settle for 1% of just one thing each day. You can improve 1% of a dozen different things per day.

Thanks for sharing, Glen. It is helpful to slow down and reflect.

As you mentioned, it is hard to believe how quickly the year is going by. One thing you touched on is being thankful for what we have in our lives.

A few times this month, I’ve found myself getting really frustrated or stressed out at work. I then remembered that I’m not doing anything critical or risky. By all means, I do find my work important, but it’s not worth stressing over to the extent I was getting worked up about.

That slowing down moment and thinking beyond the four walls of the room you’re sitting in can sometimes put things into perspective. – Mike

Great point Mike. Being able to slow down and reflect are very important attributes in the fight against stress. It’s also very helpful to have the proper perspective on life. I completely agree.

Great quote DP, something I can certainly relate to, and if only it was so easy to snap yourself out of negative thoughts! I usually find rather than trying to change my thought, I’m more successful if I try to ignore the thought instead by focusing on a simple task to keep me distracted and refocus.

Life certainly is strange, with the crazy ups and downs, but overall its a pretty amazing ride to be on 🙂

    Cheers, Frankie

    Hey DP,

definitely a good one!! – it reminds us that we are responsible for our lives.

My quote for May is: “Keep the faith. The most amazing things in life tend to happen right at the moment you’re about to give up hope.” (unknown).

DS, it reminds me of a famous Thomas Edison quote that says, “Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.” Thanks for the quote DS.

Thanks for the inspiration today 🙂 I’m always a fan of reading great quotes. I do agree with your comment about the May quote, that it is easier said than done. But it isn’t a bad idea to at least try, right?

True. The worst that can happen when you try is you don’t succeed, but imagine if you do! It certainly doesn’t hurt to try.
